Established in 2010, the Oscar Graf gallery is devoted to French, British and American furniture and works of art from 1870 to 1910. We present famous designers such as Edouard Lièvre and Emile Reiber for the French Japonist movement, Christopher Dresser and Edward William Godwin for the Aesthetic Movement, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright for the Arts & Crafts and finally Henry Van de Velde and Hector Guimard, pioneers of Art Nouveau. This period is considered the birth of modern ‘Design’, when a few audacious artists reinvented architecture and decorative arts altogether. The British were undoubtedly the first. By combining exotic or historic influences and true modernism, Godwin designed, as early as 1867, what became one of the most famous pieces of furniture of the XIXth century. Then came Dresser’s incredible teapots of 1879 and Mackintosh’s futuristic tea rooms chairs…   After opening his first gallery on the Quai Voltaire in 2011, Oscar Graf is now settled at 15 rue de Seine, in the Saint-Germain quarter. We attend international art fairs such as the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris (2012, 2014), PAD London (2013, 2014), The Salon of Art & Design in New York (2012, 2013, 2014) and Brafa (2012, 2013). Our goal is to show small selections of historically important and well-documented pieces by early modernist designers, weather already famous among collectors and museums, like Mackintosh, Wright, Van de Velde and Dresser, or who would certainly deserve a closer look like W.A.S. Benson, Ashbee and Serrurier-Bovy.
